Mallard mourning
The value of my Tennessean subscription fell again this morning with the news that they're replacing Mallard Fillmore with something that I'm sure is much more hip, trendy, and sophisticated. Read the current content here
Also in the Tennessean's dustbin of conservative comics are the Wizard of Id and B.C.
Their decidedly leftest counterpart, Doonesbury, has remained through it all.

The problem with Mallard Fillmore is that he doesn't even try to tell jokes. Prickly City, at least makes that effort, even if the artwork is a bit poor. B.C. and the Wizard of Id fall into the category of comic strips that generally fail at their efforts to be funny, along with Family Circus and Beetle Bailey and far too many others.
Doonesbury, at least, has created coherent characters and manages to make the strips either funny or part of a continuing storyline, if not both.
Humor is in the funny bone of the reader. I thought the whole draft Walter Williams push very funny. Of course, it wasn't my ox being gored.
There were only two cartoons I read every day--Mallard Fillmore and Zits. So there you have it: my busy conservative life with three teens.
