The vote on English First 2nd reading
Not finding the official vote in any of the local media I called the council clerk's office and spoke with Ms. Jones. She reports to me the vote on BL 2006-1185 "English First" last night was as follows:

I'd like to hear mayoral candidate Dozier's reason for abstaining. He's not getting the votes of those who oppose this for reasons of cultural diversity, so it seems he'd be smart to shore up cultural conservatives by voting yes. Is he hoping to get $$$ from the Chamber of Commerce and wants to avoid "crossing" them? Just wondering.
I'm against, and glad my councilwoman voted "no." Federal immigration laws should be sufficient; they just need to be enforced.
I was curious too about Dozier's 'vote'. He's running for mayor--why didn't the local press include some explanation?
I agree that current immigration laws ought to be enforced.
